Planted Patio, E8
For this front garden in Albion Square the client and I decided to rejuvenate the inherited yorkstone paving by removing areas of the old pointing and a few slabs here and there and planting the gaps. Grasses such as Nassella tenuissima and 'weeds' such as Linaria purpurea mix with Irises, Salvias and Sedums to create a wild and naturalistic space. Plants that happily self-seed in these conditions were prioritised such as Verbena bonariensis, Lychnis coronaria and Chives. A mixed Lavender hedge against the front railings are a nod to the formal gardens that are more usual in London squares.
