‘Cultivate Calm’ at the Ideal Home Show

The ‘Cultivate Calm' show garden designed by Lucy Conochie and Vanessa Blain won a Gold Medal at the Ideal Home Show 2014 and received the coveted People's Choice Award voted for by over 22,000 people who visited the show.
It was designed as an oasis of calm in the city, cultivated by sustainable means. Circular paved areas are hugged by abundantly planted borders that increase in height as they envelop the garden. Multi-stemmed Amelanchier lamarckii trees add elegance and height to the scheme. Entirely reclaimed materials are used for hard landscaping and rainwater is harvested from the roof via stormwater planters for use in the garden. Bird boxes and a stumpery encourage beneficial birds and insects into the garden, helping to naturally control plant pests. The reclaimed wooden posts used for the boundaries have now been recycled once more in The Architect’s Garden
